Why Engineering
Over forty years, the School of Engineering at the University of Kent has built a foundation for training specialists, as NSS 2024 confirms: 94% of biomedical students rate the teaching quality positively. Thirty faculty members and over 130 postgraduates create a research environment where modern equipment combines with IET accreditation, while funding from Research Councils UK and industry connections provide access to real projects.
Biomedical Engineering
The interdisciplinary Biomedical Engineering program merges engineering with biology, preparing specialists for medicine and research. Students explore physiology, robotics, and engineering mathematics before gradually choosing their specialization. IET accreditation allows graduates to partially meet requirements for Chartered Engineer status while developing skills in designing complex integrated systems that medical industries actively seek.
Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Kent centers on sustainable technologies—from renewable energy to smart electricity distribution. The course builds knowledge in both disciplines while emphasizing low-power devices and eco-friendly solutions, equipping graduates with broad skills for careers during the energy sector’s technological transformation.
Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kent
The fast-growing Mechanical Engineering program covers advanced materials, AI, and robotics. Students test theoretical knowledge through experiments and prototyping with professional software, preparing them for challenges in climate change, sustainable energy, and aerospace. An optional industry year offers paid internships with leading employers.
Architecture and the Sustainable Environment
The master’s Architecture and the Sustainable Environment program at the University of Kent develops design skills and technical understanding for sustainable construction. It combines historical building analysis with research into ecological design’s cultural context, helping students develop a systematic approach through research assignments and apply results within modern technologies.
Postgraduate Studies in Mechanical Engineering
The research programs Mechanical Engineering MRes and PhD offer projects spanning computer-aided design, computational fluid dynamics, and digital mechanics. The School of Engineering maintains 3D printers, wind tunnels, and mechatronic installations, while postgraduates join seminars and international conferences. The three-year PhD program explores autonomous systems, material failure analysis, and industrial maintenance.
